REVIEW GUIDELINES

FileZombie.org encourages reader reviews of books honestly and openly, but wants to assure that the reviews are constructive and refrain from personal attacks. The following guidelines are presented to help make sure FileZombie.org reviews and discussions are courteous, civil and stick to the subject.

You should not be afraid to express your honest opinions about books. Honest discussion is the best way for others to learn about the book and make a decision whether to read it. Our goal is not to censor, but to provide readers with the best, most relevant, thought provoking reviews regardless if the reviews are positive or negative.

Here are some examples of what we allow in reviews:

• Harsh critical statements that apply to the book or the writing in it. You can say “this writer can’t write,” but it is not okay to say “this writer is ugly.” Honest opinions about books are always encouraged.
• Use the book as inspiration for a personal essay or other piece of creative writing.
• Images in reviews are permitted as long as there is no objectionable depiction.
• Reviews are permitted to be posted even before the release of the book.

And here are some items that might cause your review to move to the bottom or not even appear on the book page:

• Reviews of the author. Mentioning the author in the context of a review of the book is always acceptable, but reviews that are predominantly about an author’s behavior and not about the book will be deleted.
• Reviews with off-topic, irrelevant comments about the author's personal life will be deleted.
• Spam reviews will be deleted immediately.
• Abuse of our ratings system, such as multiple ratings of the same work for the purpose of increasing or decreasing the book's average rating.
• Reviews that attack other reviewers will be deleted. It is okay to disagree about a review, but not to mock or harass another reviewer.
• Reviews must be your own original content. Plagiarized or copyrighted material used without permission will be deleted.
• Self-promotional reviews will be deleted.
• Full reviews that link to a blog are acceptable, as long as the blog is not selling a competing book and using the review to denigrate the book being reviewed in favor of its own.
• Reviews that are harassing or threatening, or that contain hate speech or bigotry will be deleted outright and anyone posting them risks being removed from the site.
• Commercial reviews are not allowed and will be deleted. If you received a free copy of the book, you are required to disclose that in your review.
